About the College of Design

One of the most comprehensive design institutions in the U.S.

The Iowa State University College of Design is home to approximately 2,000 undergraduate and 160 graduate students. We offer 11 undergraduate majors; 8 undergraduate minors; 1 post-baccalaureate certificate; 13 graduate majors; 2 graduate certificates; and 3 graduate minors.

We’re accredited through the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD), and our programs are accredited individually by their professional accrediting organizations.

Our mission

At the College of Design, it is our mission to educate students to become successful designers, planners, artists, and scholars who improve the quality of life, enhance human experience, and advance environmental sustainability; and to serve as a resource for Iowa and beyond through research, creative endeavors, extension, and outreach.

Facilities and shops

Visit the Design Cafe for a coffee, a snack, or lunch. Purchase materials at the Design Store on the second floor. Build in the college Model Shop. Celebrate art in Gallery 181. The College of Design’s facilities offer countless opportunities for students, faculty and staff, and the general public.
