Start Something in the College of Design

Everyone has a spark of innovation inside them. At Iowa State we see every student as a Cyclone in the Making gaining strength and momentum from the vibrant community around them. Through Iowa State’s Start Something network we provide students with the education and support to turn ideas into real projects that can make an impact.

Innovation and entrepreneurship are part of everything we do in the College of Design from classes and research to facilities and student programs so you have what you need to succeed as an innovator and entrepreneur. With plenty of events and activities the College helps you start something meaningful and become a strong force of change a true Cyclone in the Making.

CoD Cohort 10 CYstarters

Student entrepreneurs selected for CYstarters summer program

Four College of Design students at Iowa State University have been selected for Cohort 10 of the CYstarters summer accelerator program. Hosted by the ISU Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship, the 11-week program supports students in developing their startups and refining their business ideas. Participants include Ella Janssen, Kailey Stevens, Boluwarin Ojo, and Sam Morrow, each working on ventures ranging from branding studios to innovative welding gear and mindfulness-focused ceramics.

Two College of Design students earned top honors at Iowa State University’s 2025 College-by-College Pitch Off Finale, a fast-paced competition where students from all majors pitch business ideas in just 90 seconds.
