AMES, Iowa — The Iowa State University College of Design will present inaugural Honorary Alumni Awards to nine individuals for their advocacy and support of the college.

Dean Luis Rico-Gutierrez established the Honorary Alumni Awards this year to recognize individuals who are not graduates of the College of Design, who embody the college’s values and have made a significant impact on the college’s welfare, reputation, prestige and pursuit of excellence.

Recipients will be celebrated at a reception and dinner Wednesday, Oct. 25, in the College of Design. They include:

  • Susan Boren King
  • James P. Cramer
  • Mary Jane Foutch
  • LaVern and Rose Gordon
  • Steven McKay
  • Rita Pearsall
  • Robert Pulver (posthumous honor)
  • Dotty Thurston

“These are distinguished friends and colleagues whose goals and interests align with those of the College of Design and whose enthusiasm and commitment to supporting our shared values is exemplary,” Rico-Gutierrez said.

“We’re grateful for the opportunity to recognize their close relationship with us by awarding them honorary alumni status.”

Awardees will also participate in a brunch with College of Design student leaders and a tour of the United States International Poster Biennial exhibition in the college’s Gallery 181.
