AMES, Iowa — Michael Braley, creative director of Braley Design in Lexington, Kentucky, will share his influences and insights from three decades as an award-winning graphic designer in a lecture at Iowa State University.

Braley will present “The Art of the Poster” at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, in Kocimski Auditorium, room 101 College of Design.

In this free lecture — which follows the opening reception of the United States International Poster Biennial exhibition in the college’s Gallery 181 — Braley, who has eight posters selected for the juried exhibition (including his “Herbert Bayer Homage, at right), will reveal the key elements that make an effective poster and what he believes is the true “art” of the poster.

While at Iowa State, Braley will also offer a workshop on typographic poster design for undergraduate students in the graphic design program.
