ISU College of Design senior Zoey Mauck awarded Phi Kappa Phi Study Abroad Grant
12/08/17
AMES, Iowa — Iowa State University College of Design student Zoey Mauck, Des Moines, recently was awarded a $1,000 Study Abroad Grant from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi — the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. Mauck is one of 25 students nationwide to receive the award.
Since 2001, Phi Kappa Phi’s Study Abroad Grant Program has awarded more than $800,000 to undergraduate students. Selection is based on the applicant’s academic achievement, campus and community service, relation of travel to academic preparation and career goals, a personal statement, letters of recommendation and acceptance into a study abroad program.
Mauck, a senior double-majoring in landscape architecture and community and regional planning, will use the grant to study abroad at the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm from January through June 2018. She will take courses in urban development and planning, geographic information systems and sustainable transportation development.
“These classes mostly align with the community and regional planning degree program, but will expand on what I’ve learned this year during my landscape architecture urban design course,” Mauck said. “I’m hoping to pursue a career in bike and pedestrian planning and design, so learning about planning and transportation in a city with great walkability and bike accessibility will be very beneficial to me.”
Students in the ISU landscape architecture program spend the spring semester of their fourth year off campus, typically completing an internship, studying abroad or participating in the National Student Exchange.
