Fall 2023 College of Design Graduation Convocation

What is Convocation?
The College of Design convocation is a separate event from the official Iowa State University commencement ceremonies. Convocation includes only students from the College of Design and allows for a shorter, more individualized celebration of their achievements. Convocation will include greetings from Design administration and individual recognition of each graduating student in attendance.
RSVP for Graduation & Convocation
Candidates for graduation should RSVP online via AccessPlus. Under Student, choose Graduation and complete all required fields. The RSVP link will be active until Tuesday, Dec. 12. Students who did not register for convocation but would still like to attend will be asked to complete a blank walking card before the event.
Student Attire
Please wear business professional attire. Graduation caps and gowns are optional at convocation. Caps and gowns must be worn at university ceremonies.
Parking, Arrival & Check-in
Students and guests should park in lots 9 and 10 behind the College of Design. Parking restrictions in these lots will not be enforced during convocation. See campus parking map here. Student check-in will be in the central foyer.
Special Accommodations & Accessibility for Guests
Wheelchair-accessible seating is available in the back of Kocimski Auditorium.
Livestream & Photography
For the enjoyment of those who cannot celebrate with us in person, the convocation will be livestreamed on the college’s YouTube channel. Flash Photography will take professional photos during the ceremony that are optional to purchase, and proofs will be sent in the mail and electronically. Guests are welcome to take photos of their student during the ceremony. Please contact Flash Photography with any additional questions.
Diploma Information
Diplomas will not be handed out during convocation or commencement ceremonies. Graduation requirements will be verified and diplomas will be mailed to all candidates who have successfully completed degree requirements. Diploma covers are presented at the university commencement ceremonies.
University Graduate & Undergraduate Commencement Ceremonies
College of Design convocation is a separate event from the official Iowa State University commencement ceremonies. Convocation includes only students from the College of Design and allows students and their guests a shorter, more individualized celebration of their achievements. Graduating students are encouraged to attend the university’s official commencement ceremonies. Academic attire is required at these ceremonies.
- Graduate Commencement Ceremony, 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, Hilton Coliseum
- Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec.16, Hilton Coliseum
Distinction cords are distributed by the Office of the Registrar. If you have qualified for distinction cords, you will receive an email from the Office of the Registrar with the date, time and location to pick up your cords. To see if you have qualified for distinction:
- Login to AccessPlus
- Select the Student tab
- Click Graduation
- Choose Graduation Status
