Exploring Novel Strategies for Urban Sustainability: The Concept of the 15-Minute City

Beniamino Murgante, professor of spatial planning at the School of Engineering at the University of Basilicata in Potenza, Italy will lead a virtual lecture on “Exploring Novel Strategies for Urban Sustainability: The Concept of the 15-Minute City” from 1:40–3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, via Webex. He will speak during the Smart and Sustainable Cities course taught by Alenka Poplin, associate professor of community and regional planning. The virtual lecture is open to the public.

Murgante currently serves as the director of the laboratory of urban and territorial systems. He is the coordinator of the undergraduate and postgraduate civil and environmental engineering curriculum. And he is the coordinator of the smart mobility and urban services in the smart Basilicata postgraduate program at the University of Basilicata. He is a board member for many international journals, scientific committees, national and international conferences, and the scientific council of national and international organizations.

He is the editor of the “Building Sustainable Cities” chapter in the Sustainable Communities journal published by Taylor & Francis. He is a program committee chair and workshop and session organizer chair for the International Conference on Computation Science and Its Applications (ICCSA).

Murgante received his doctorate in civil engineering from the University of Pisa in Italy.
