Beauty Investigated: Dilemmas, Projects and Promises Exhibition

January 18 - February 22

In conjunction with the “Beauty Investigated: Dilemmas, Projects and Promises” symposium, this exhibition will explore the cultural and social constructs of beauty through a series of artworks. The exhibition is organized by art and visual culture faculty Ingrid Lilligren, professor, and Johhny DiBlasi, assistant professor. The art will be on view in Gallery 181 from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. weekdays from Thursday, Jan. 18–Thursday, Feb. 22. A reception will be held from 6:15–7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in Gallery 181.

The exhibition comprises various media including installation, performance, text-based works and sculpture. The exhibition will address how beauty is constructed and defined, who determines the meanings of beauty, the social history of standards of beauty and the consequences of their application, and the relevance and impact of how we think about this all too often overused concept.
