College of Design Faculty & Staff Spring Seminar

March 1 @ 9:00 am - 12:00 pm

Rescheduled from Jan. 12

The Science of Emotions

College of Design faculty, staff and graduate teaching assistants are invited to participate in this seminar (rescheduled from Friday, Jan. 12) to learn about the science of emotions and fostering community with others – especially with and among our students. Through individual and group activities, we will enrich our plans for courses, projects and programs to advance our core educational mission in Design.

The seminar and discussions will be facilitated by Dau Jok, a former Division I basketball captain and U.S. Army Reserve captain, nonprofit director and SEL Fellow with the Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning who now works for the West Des Moines Community Schools.

Originally from South Sudan, Jok holds a BA in philosophy from the University of Pennsylvania, MSc in global leadership from Goldsmiths, University of London, and PhD in education from Drake University. He is an Associate of the Harambe Entrepreneurial Alliance, an international alliance of African entrepreneurs. His nonprofit Dut Jok Youth Foundation, which aims to empower youth through access to sports and education, has served over 2,100 youth in three countries.

Attendance is optional, and light refreshments will be provided.
