Verena Paepcke-Hjeltness, an Iowa State University assistant professor of industrial design, and Teddy Lu, a visiting professor at Purdue University, were invited to conduct a workshop at the IDSA (Industrial Designers Society of America Association) International Design Conference (IDC) in New Orleans in September. The invitation was based on their accepted paper, “Design for Visual Empowerment.” The workshop, “Sketchnoting, More than Pen Meets Paper,” was held during the educational symposium with a diverse audience ranging from well-known designers to educators and students.

In addition, Paepcke-Hjeltness presented a paper on “Design for International Dialogue, Electric Kick-Scooter Design,” a project initiated by Reinhart Butter, professor emeritus of industrial design at Ohio State University, with five universities worldwide, which was conducted in spring 2016.
