Seda McKilligan and Mani Mina, Iowa State University associate professors of industrial design; Nick Fila, a postdoctoral researcher in industrial design, and Diane Rover, University Professor of electrical and computer engineering, presented a paper on “Design Thinking as a Catalyst for Changing Teaching and Learning Practices in Engineering” at the Frontiers of Education (FIE) 2017 conference Oct. 18-21 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The paper, which will be published in the conference proceedings, outlines the means to use design thinking as the foundational methodology for transforming a traditional engineering department into an agile department. This effort is part of the NSF RED (Revolutionizing Engineering Departments) project that was awarded to Iowa State in 2016.
