Raluca Iancu, assistant professor of art and visual culture, is a recipient of the Iowa State University Spring 2020 Teaching Innovation Award. Funded by an anonymous donor to the university, the $1,000 award recognizes faculty who demonstrated exemplary innovation in their curriculum and pedagogy during the transition to online instruction, achieved strong course outcomes and went “above and beyond” during that whirlwind period. Iancu worked with Joseph Bovenmyer, College of Design studio support coordinator, and Jeremy Thurlby, model shop manager, to 3D-print small printing presses for each of her intaglio printmaking students to take home with them when courses moved online in mid-March. She then used Canvas and videoconferencing to stay in touch and have students share their work.
