Kimberly Zarecor, associate professor of architecture, presented “The Rural Shrink Smart Project” Thursday, May 16, at the Engaging Local Government Leaders (ELGL) 2019 annual conference at the Durham Convention Center in Durham, North Carolina. In her keynote address, Zarecor shared her Iowa State research team’s study of the relationship between population loss and quality of life in small and shrinking rural communities, which was supported by a National Science Foundation Smart and Connected Communities Planning Grant.
