“From Won’t Read to Will Read: An Assignment to Foster Student Engagement” by Julie Irish, assistant professor of interior design, is included in the 2022 CELT Teaching Briefs published by the Iowa State University Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching.

The briefs illustrate strategies and activities that align with disciplinary expectations, yet are simple, versatile and adaptable to a variety of teaching and learning contexts. Irish describes how she was able to get her students more engaged in class by assigning readings and having her students present those readings in class. Irish says her students found the peer-led lessons both enriching and intriguing.
