The team of Joshua Becker, Samuel Christianson, Charlie Erdman, Nathan Miklo and Nathan Timmons, all seniors in industrial design, has won first place for their “Form-Y” wooden bicycle design in the Transportation Design Category (Student) of the Industart International Industrial Design 2019 competition in Kiev, Ukraine. They will receive a trophy and other prizes. The students developed the project — a single-gear bicycle with a hand-shaped wood frame, custom CNC-machined dropouts and a carbon fiber belt drive — in an independent study last year with Matthew Obbink, assistant professor of teaching in industrial design.
