Emily Godbey, associate professor of art and visual culture, will present “Trashy Art History: Mining Cultural Leftovers” Monday, Oct. 25, at Reed College in Portland, Oregon. She will discuss how to use sources outside of the library and museum for visual and material culture research. The lecture will highlight artists Fred Wilson and Betye Saar, who both shopped flea markets and garage sales for culturally significant artifacts to use in their artworks and installations.
