The IGFI Annual Fiscal Conditions Reports for Cities, FYE 2020, and the IGFI Annual Fiscal Conditions Reports for Counties, FYE 2020, are now available on the Iowa Government Finance Initiative’s website.

The customized reports for each of the 941 cities in Iowa include the latest population estimates for cities and counties and changes during 2010-20, estimated using data from 2020 U.S. Census for the year 2020. The reports capture the likely and early impacts the COVID-19 pandemic had on revenues and spending patterns at the city level. In addition, the legislative changes during 2019-2021 impacting city finances are also included to provide context while interpreting trends in the revenue and spending indicators.

The customized reports for each of Iowa’s 99 counties include the latest population estimates for counties and changes in aggregate metro and non-metro county population during 2010-20, estimated using data from the 2020 U.S. Census. The reports capture the likely and early impacts the COVID-19 pandemic had on revenues and spending patterns at the county level. In addition, the legislative changes during 2019-21 impacting county finances are also included to provide context while interpreting trends in the revenue and spending indicators.

Biswa Das, associate professor of community and regional planning and extension community development specialist, and Christopher Seeger, professor of landscape architecture and extension landscape architect, along with ISU Extension and Outreach GIS systems analysts Bailey Hanson and Rakesh Shah and data analyst Erin Mullenix, who holds a joint role as the research director for the Iowa League of Cities, are co-authors of the reports.
