Three acrylic paintings by Anna Segner, assistant teaching professor of art and visual culture, are on display in A Way Art Gallery’s New Year, New Art online exhibition. Included are “Dinner in the Toyroom,” “Iggy” and “Watering Hole.” About “Iggy” (pictured), Segner says, “This painting juxtaposes the plush toy lizard to the actual scaly skin of an iguana. In the manufactured toy miniaturizations, biology is ditched for the soft and cuddly version. While it is just a toy, displacement of animal realities positions the animal without any agency when in fact iguanas are faced with habitat loss and poaching for the pet trade.”
