Alenka Poplin, an Iowa State University assistant professor of community and regional planning, presented two papers at the 2nd International Conference on Smart Data and Smart Cities, Oct. 4-6, 2017, in Puebla, Mexico.

“Place-making: An Approach to the Rationale Behind the Location Choice of Power Places. Iowa State University Campus as Case Study,” co-authored with Claudia Yamu and Luis Rico-Gutierrez, dean of the ISU College of Design, has been published in the International Society for Photogammetry  and Remote Sensing’s International Archives of the Photogammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, XLII-4/W3, 73-81, 2017.

“Engaging Youth through Spatial Socio-technical Storytelling, Participatory GIS, Agent-based Modeling, Online Geogames and Action Projects,” co-authored with Linda Shenk, ISU associate professor of English; Caroline Krejci and Ulrike Passe, ISU associate professor of architecture, has been published in the ISPRS Annals of the Photogammetry, Remote Sensing and Spatial Information Sciences, IV-4/W3, 55-62, 2017.
