Barbara Walton, associate professor of art and visual culture, was selected for a three-week artist residency, July 13–Aug. 2, at Whiterock Conservancy near Coon Rapids. Her original intention was to invite a botanist to speak about native plants and their medicinal uses to expand on a series called “Field Medicine.” Because of COVID-19, she opted to do research mostly alone and work on small paintings to serve as information for larger encaustic paintings she’ll complete in her Ames studio.
