New Call for Grants

If your next big idea could use some financial support, you’re in luck. The Iowa Arts Council just announced a new call for grant applications. While most of them are due May 1, the earliest application deadline is March 15 for the Iowa Artist Fellowship.

If you’re familiar with the grants, you’ll want to check out a few changes to established programs, plus a couple of new ones. This year, you can get some help with each grant program’s application process by registering for our live webinars, which allow you to follow along from the comfort of your home or studio.

New ArtUps: March Programs
ArtUps pick up again this month, and you can learn how to create a business model, get involved in public art and write successful grant applications. ArtUps are free, but registration is required.
Meet the Artist
The Meet the Artist program is coming to the Dubuque Museum of Art at 2 p.m. on March 25. Hear about the work of the five Iowa Artist Fellows and artist Heidi Draley McFall of nearby De Witt.
The Film Lounge
The Film Lounge
The television premiere of “The Film Lounge” wrapped last month with high praise from filmmakers, and submissions for next season are already being accepted. Be sure to submit your short film for consideration by June 1.
Iowa Women's Art Exhibit
Iowa Women's Art Exhibition
If you’re a female artist in Iowa, you can apply to participate in the Iowa Women’s Art Exhibition on display in the formal office of the Lieutenant Governor at the State Capitol. Works rotate semi-annually and artists receive a $250 stipend. Deadline is May 1.
Ag Art Exhibition
Agriculture Art Exhibition
The Celebration of Iowa: Agriculture Art Exhibition is back for a sixth year, and you’re encouraged to submit artwork by July 1. The competition offers $5,600 in prizes, and the finalists will have their work displayed from August through October at the State Historical Museum of Iowa.
Poetry Out Loud
Poetry Out Loud this Sunday
Students from across Iowa will head to the State Historical Building in Des Moines this Sunday for the Poetry Out Loud State Finals. You can watch the recitation of classic poems and find out who will move on to the national finals to represent Iowa in Washington, D.C.
