AMES, Iowa — The Iowa State University Print Society will host “Insects and Their Environment,” the 24th Annual International Postcard Print Exchange Exhibition and Silent Auction, Nov. 18–Dec. 6 at the ISU College of Design.
“Selected by students, this year’s theme resulted in varied responses from individuals from across the country and across the world,” said Raluca Iancu, assistant professor of art and visual culture (printmaking) and faculty advisor to the print club.
“Insects do so much for our environment, and we encouraged participants to reflect on all the ways they impact our lives. We were delighted to receive prints featuring many different insects and environments,” she said.
The show will include 170 different prints by artists from 17 US states and five other countries: Belgium, Canada, England, South Korea, and the Netherlands.
Hours and reception
Exhibition hours are 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday in Gallery 181, located on the first floor of the College of Design building on the west side of the Iowa State campus. Admission is free. A public reception with light refreshments will be from 5–6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 19. Gallery 181 will be closed November 25–29 for Thanksgiving Break.
Silent auction
All postcard prints on display will also be for sale through a bidding process described in the gallery. Bidding ends at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6. Proceeds help fund club activities, such as visiting artist lectures, print projects and supplies for student-run, on-campus printmaking workshops.
This year, the University Print Society has been able to support two students’ attendance at the Mid-America Print Council Conference and three visiting artists: Jennifer Scheuer, Thomas Wharton and Nick Phan.
