AMES, Iowa – Wade Scaramucci, director at Allford Hall Monaghan Morris in Oklahoma City, will present the 2024 Substance Design Forum lecture at Iowa State University.

Part of the Department of Architecture’s 2023-2024 Public Programs series, “Of the Land,” the lecture will begin at 4:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, in Kocimski Auditorium, room 101 College of Design.

In his free talk, “Ordinary… Extraordinary,” Scaramucci will share how, through intelligent design and professional methodology, ordinary buildings can become extraordinary ones.

Substance Design Forum

Established in 2018, the Substance Design Forum is a lecture and a juried design studio competition for Iowa State students in the final year of both the undergraduate and graduate architecture programs. The event is funded by Substance Architecture. Scaramucci will also serve as a guest juror for this year’s student competition.

Presentations will start at 1 p.m. April 12 in the Hansen Exchange, upper-level center space in the College of Design’s King Pavilion. Awards will be announced in conjunction with the lecture at 4:30 p.m.

About the speaker

Prior to joining AHMM as a project architect in 2005, Scaramucci gained experience working with firms in Los Angeles, New York, London and Dubai. He was promoted to associate director in 2008 and director in 2021.

He currently leads the work of AHMM’s Oklahoma City office, which locally includes the Plow Building, the Central Exchange and a new home for Oklahoma City Ballet, as well as key projects in the United Kingdom, including Buildings P2 and S3 within the King’s Cross Central masterplan.

In 2018, Scaramucci was named an Oklahoma Creativity Ambassador by Creative Oklahoma, a nonprofit agency dedicated to promoting and supporting creativity and innovation in the state. He was appointed by Governor Kevin Stitt to serve on the Oklahoma Board of Architects in 2022.

Previously, he was a design advisor for the Design Council in the United Kingdom and a board member of the American Institute of Architects UK chapter. He was also a member of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Scaramucci is a graduate of Leadership Oklahoma Class 35 and a member of the Downtown Oklahoma City Business Improvement District Board of Directors. He received his degree in architecture from the University of Oklahoma.
