Five College of Design alumni have been selected as Emerging Iowa Artists for this year’s Des Moines Arts Festival, June 25–27 in Western Gateway Park:

  • Adrienne Howell (BFA 2019 Integrated Studio Arts / BS 2019 Apparel, Merchandising and Design)
  • Jamila Johnson (BFA 2019 Integrated Studio Arts)
  • Kirsten Morford (BFA 2019 Integrated Studio Arts)
  • Jeremy Roy (BFA 2019 Integrated Studio Arts)

Alumni Erin Carpenter (BLA 2008 Landscape Architecture & Environmental Studies), Anna Segner (MFA 2019 Integrated Visual Arts) and Chris Vance (BFA 2000 Art & Design – Visual Studies) are among the 154 professional artists participating in the festival.

Carpenter and all of the emerging artists will share their work and process in demonstrations scheduled throughout the event.

Segner, now an assistant teaching professor in art and visual culture in the College of Design, won the Leysens Family Award for Best of Emerging Iowa Artists at the 2019 Des Moines Arts Festival.

Festival hours are 11 a.m.–10 p.m. Friday, June 25, and Saturday, June 26, and 11 a.m.–5 p.m. Sunday, June 27. Admission is free.
