Song is an associate professor in the College of Design at Iowa State University and a LEED Accredited Professional. Her major research interests are wayfinding design and concepts in architectural interior space, evidence-based design research and practice in healthcare design education, innovative method of design communication and visualization, color education in environmental context, and creative approaches to the design scholarship. Her works have been internationally and nationally recognized from award competitions and exhibitions—juried international, national, and regional conferences and meetings. As a design educator, Song was honored to receive the teaching award from the College of Design in Iowa State University (Polster Teaching Award, Best Studio Professor of the Year, 2010). Her contribution featured in program’s curriculum development that includes the new interdisciplinary healthcare design studio sponsored by the HDR Architecture, Inc. in Omaha. As a design scholar and creative designer, she was involved as one of five illustrators for a book in which narrative inquiry and analysis provides a holistic approach to design thinking. Her illustrations were published to feature key aspects of stories within the book’s chapters on the impact of civility and empathy within interiors, as well as place identity (Dohr & Portillo, John Wiley & Sons, Inc, 2011).
