Designing for Well-being, Technology, Society, and Inclusivity

Led by Yongyeon Cho, Interior Design, and Brandon Olsen, Graphic Design

Welcome to “Workplace of Tomorrow,” an innovative design studio for junior, senior, and graduate-level interior design, architecture, graphic design, and industrial design students. This course invites you to explore the dynamic future of workspaces in the Midwest while considering the profound impact of employee well-being, advanced technology, rapidly changing society, and inclusive design.

In an era marked by remote and hybrid work cultures, diverse working groups, and the emergence of new generations like Gen Z and the senior population, the workplace is evolving at an unprecedented pace. This studio challenges students to envision inclusive and comfortable work environments that cater to the diverse needs of today’s workforce.

This interdisciplinary studio goes beyond traditional design concepts to explore the intricate realm of human-computer interaction. Aiming to aid the evolving relationship between people and technology, students will explore the application of brand strategy, experiential graphics, and interaction design in both physical and virtual environments.

Throughout this course, students will engage in hands-on projects, collaborate with peers, and participate in thought-provoking discussions led by experts in the field. By the course’s end, students will have developed a portfolio of forward-thinking workplace designs responsive to modern society’s demands. Join us in shaping “Workplace of Tomorrow,” where innovation, technology, health, society, and inclusivity converge to redefine the future of work.
