One Step Closer: Exploration in Experiential Design

This multidisciplinary studio will focus on the creation of a next generation experiential design proposal aimed at advancing the Strategic Air Command (SAC) Museum in Ashland, Nebraska (between Lincoln and Omaha). The SAC Museum is a place for aspiring innovators, builders, explorers and anyone in between to immerse themselves in the discovery of flight and space exploration. Following NASA’s mission, proposals will aim to examine and improve the human condition by communicating advances in science, technology, aeronautics, and space exploration to enhance knowledge, education, innovation, economic vitality, and the stewardship of Earth. Multidisciplinary student teams of architecture, graphic design, interior design, industrial design, as well as other disciplines, will be tasked with creating a unique and innovative design proposal presented at a professional level of proficiency to a client. Components developed could entail a space hotel and connected/companion museum experience, a STEM space camp experience, learning/training experience exhibits, and UX/UI integration. During the semester we will do a one-day field assessment site visit to the SAC Museum in Nebraska where we will also meet with the client. A one-week field study to Washington DC is also planned, where we will engage with similar content and experiential design precedents, which abound in the nation’s Capital.
Proposals will be developed utilizing a proven multidisciplinary teaching method, coordinating with national design professionals, educators, and content experts. Past project proposals from this studio have won national and international design awards, competing against practicing professionals in several instances.
