Richard F. Hansen Prize Forum and Lecture
February 10 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Iowa State alumni Richard F. and Barbara E. Hansen established the Hansen Prize in 2004 to recognize the winner(s) of a design studio competition held in conjunction with the Richard F. Hansen Lecture in Architecture.
Francesco Garofolo from Openfabric in Milan is this year’s guest juror and lecturer. He will present his lecture “Usually Unnoiticed” at 4 p.m. Monday, February 10, in Kocimski Auditorium.
In his lecture, Garofalo will reflect on the key principles that have shaped the work of Openfabric. He’ll explain how he uses multilayered observation as a tool to uncover hidden conditions and a deep interest in what is often overlooked or unnoticed, fostering active participation and creating spaces of desire.
“Landscape architecture emerges as a powerful instrument for raising awareness, fostering action, and driving change in an increasingly urbanized world where equality and climate change demand urgent attention,” Garofalo said. “A multi-scalar approach—spanning both space and time—comes to life through a diverse body of work, ranging from small-scale furniture design to large-scale regional strategies.”
