IDRO Monday Research Seminar: Knitted Architectures: Crafting Interactive Environments
November 18 @ 12:10 pm - 1:00 pm
In her presentation on “Knitted Architectures: Crafting Interactive Environments,” architecture assistant professor Virginia Melnyk will describe how integrating knitting with architecture challenges traditional boundaries, turning textile techniques into innovative structural applications.
Melnyk is a computational architectural designer and researcher with a passion for textiles and craft, specializing in material design, textiles, and deployable structures. Her work explores the intersection of craft and design, where material experimentation leads to new approaches in creating adaptable and responsive environments. Through a focus on materiality and structure, Melnyk investigates how these practices can reshape architectural possibilities.
Sponsored by the Institute for Design Research and Outreach (IDRO), Monday Research Seminars are open to all.
