Earth Observation Day

All are invited to attend Earth Observation Day from 10–11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15, in 206 Durham. The event will be held in celebration of Earth Science Week. Hosted by the ISU GIS Support and Research Facility and IowaView, the schedule for Earth Observation Day will go as follows:

10–10:30 a.m.: Antonio Arenas Amado, assistant professor of civil, construction and environmental engineering, will lead a presentation titled “Google Earth Engine and Open ET (Evapotranspiration),” that will explain how he has used Google Earth Engine in his research and in the classroom.

10:30–11 a.m.: Brian Gelder, ISU GIS Facility Research Lead and adjunct assistant professor of community and regional planning, will discuss “LiDAR Processing via ArcGIS and PDAL” during his presentation. He will share how a Python extension can be used for translating point cloud data.

11–11:30 a.m.: Bryce Pape, community and regional planning student, will lead a session on “Google Earth Engine and Agriculture Residue Cover.”

Snacks will be provided along with informational booklets, posters and trading cards.
