Beauty Investigated: Dilemmas, Projects, and Promises Symposium

The “Beauty Investigated: Dilemmas, Projects and Promises” symposium will explore the cultural and social constructs of beauty through a series of discussions and artwork. The three-day event is organized by art and visual culture faculty Ingrid Lilligren, professor, and Johhny DiBlasi, assistant professor, with support from a CEAH Symposium Grant, Department of Art and Visual Culture, Department of Architecture, Robert Allen Wright Endowed Chair Fund (Paul Canfield, Distinguished Professor) and the College of Design.
Discussions will address research, aesthetics and materiality in relation to beauty and media.
The symposium will take place Feb. 15–17 in the College of Design and Student Innovation Center. An introduction and overview will be from 5–6 p.m. and reception from 6:15–7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, in Gallery 181, with a reading by Debra Marquart and a performance by Ritwik Banerji.
Symposium panels will be presented by Iowa State and guest faculty members listed in the news release.
