Gregory Palermo Celebration of Life

The College of Design and Department of Architecture will host a public celebration of life for Gregory Palermo, FAIA (1946-2022), from 4–6 p.m. Monday, April 25, in the Hunziker House at Reiman Gardens, 1407 University Blvd. in Ames.
A formal program will begin at 4:15 p.m. Distinguished speakers will include:
  • Wendy Wintersteen, president of Iowa State University
  • Luis Rico-Gutierrez, dean of the College of Design
  • Deborah Hauptmann, chair of the Department of Architecture
  • Olivia Madison, Palermo’s spouse and dean emerita of the University Library
  • Rob Wallace, associate professor of ecology, evolution and organismal biology and former Faculty Senate president
  • Jessica Reinert, executive director of the Iowa Chapter of the American Institute of Architects
Colleagues, alumni and friends are invited to share personal anecdotes and tributes following the program. Refreshments will be served.
A professor emeritus of architecture, Palermo died Sunday, March 20, in Ames. He was 75. He served on the Iowa State architecture faculty from 1992 until his retirement in 2017, and prior to joining the faculty, he worked in an architectural practice full time for more than 20 years.
