Curt F. Dale Guest Lecture in Architecture: Beyond the Building – Amie Shao
Since its founding in 2008, the work of MASS Design Group has centered on the principle that architecture is never neutral — it either heals or it hurts. MASS’s mission is to research, design and advocate for buildings that promote health, justice and human dignity. Amie Shao, a principal at MASS, will present a series of recent projects that refocus the conversation from what architecture is to what it does. This lecture will showcase ways that MASS is expanding the architectural practice model through immersive contextual work that uncovers local needs and opportunities, impact-driven design that advances the well-being of individuals and communities, construction processes that amplify regional investment, and impact evaluation that captures the value of design and its effect on people’s lives.
This is the 2019 Curt F. Dale Guest Lecture in Architecture, part of the ISU Department of Architecture’s 2018-2019 Public Programs Series, “Anonymity.”
