Maze Crawler: Toys! Studio 2019
It’s a maze. It’s a sculpture. It’s a happening. It’s a game like no other. Scour through the intricate maze in search of the randomly placed, coveted mystery prize balls, in hopes of big winnings. The maze is large and complicated — be prepared for a challenge.
Rather than offering ethical answers to abstract moral questions about where one should go or how one might get there in a world that is simultaneously increasing in opportunity and diminishing in access, ISU College of Design students enrolled in the Toys! Studio this spring propose to bring creative awareness to the complexities and self-inquiry dilemmas faced when navigating a world deeply rooted in the physicality and co-existence of being.
With a 30 x 60-foot low-profile maze, they invite participants to consider what new political ecologies might emerge through the playful action of social composting.
