Mvskoke Community Futurity: A Map to the Next World
Laura Harjo is a Mvskoke scholar, founding member of the Green Corn Collective, Indigenous methodologist and assistant professor in the Department of Community and Regional Planning, at the University of New Mexico.
Raised by an extended Mvskoke family active in the Mvskoke community and tribal politics, Harjo is a lifelong student of emancipatory community processes. Her research and teaching centers on Indigenous spatialities, community building, Indigenous feminist community planning praxis, artivism and community engaged knowledge production. Her recent project focuses on employing Mvskoke and Indigenous feminist epistemologies, and theories of Indigenous space, place, and mapping in a community praxis of futurity.
Harjo’s book, Spiral to the Stars: Mvskoke Tools of Futurity, is forthcoming this spring from University of Arizona Press.
