Shelters, Origins and Traps: Adrian Lahoud

February 7 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Event Navigation

Drawing primarily on anthropological research from the perspective of pre-capitalist and pre-industrial societies, Adrian Lahoud — dean of the School of Architecture at the Royal College of Art, London — will examine the idea of shelter, which he will compare with another idea, that of the trap — specifically as elaborated by British anthropologist Alfred Gell. He will use this comparison to question the role shelter plays within the architectural imagination, suggesting that “the trap might offer an alternative model to look at architecture throughout a peculiar kind of political, practical anthropology.”
