Spring 2022 Graduation Convocation
Saturday, May 14, 2022
9:00 a.m. — It is anticipated the ceremony will last no longer than two hours.
Candidates for graduation must RSVP through AccessPlus. Under Student, click on the Graduation tab on the side of the page. The link is active until Tuesday, May 10. Students who did not RSVP but would like to walk at convocation will be asked to legibly complete a blank walking card before the event.
Students and faculty participating in the College of Design convocation are asked to wear business professional attire. Graduation caps and gowns are optional but not necessary. Academic regalia (caps and gowns) must be worn at university ceremonies.
We ask our guests to park in lots south of Stephens Auditorium. Parking tags or permits are not needed in these lots. Handicapped parking is available in lot F on the west side of Stephens Auditorium. Find the online campus parking map here.
Arrival & Check-in
Doors will open to the public an hour in advance and coffee will be available in the lobby. Guests are welcome to take their seats at this time. Students should arrive at least 20 minutes prior to the start of the convocation ceremony. Check-in will be located backstage and students will check in with their department chairs and/or faculty representatives to receive their walking cards. Graduates are encouraged to enter from the loading dock through the stage door on the south side of the building. Those who arrive late may not be able to walk at convocation.
Procession & Ceremony
Each department will process into the auditorium together led by their faculty representative and department chair. A volunteer will direct each department to the aisle when it is time to walk. Students will return to the row directly in front of where they were previously seated after being announced. Please note that students will not return to the same seat. Please leave personal belongings with family or friends in attendance.
Students will sit with their department in a reserved area. Seating for guests is on a first come, first served basis.
Special Accommodations & Accessibility for Guests
Wheelchair-accessible seating is available at the back of the main floor. This area can be accessed by entering through the north ground floor doors and taking the elevator to the main floor. Those with mobility restrictions, but not wheelchair bound, should enter through the southwest tower door to access seating on the house right side of row 11 without having to negotiate any stairs.
For the enjoyment of those who cannot celebrate with us in person, the convocation will be livestreamed.
Flash Photography will take professional photos during the ceremony. Proofs will be provided both in the mail and electronically. Families may take pictures as their student walks across the stage, and there will be an opportunity for additional photos after the ceremony. Additional questions regarding photography should be directed to Flash Photography.
Diplomas will not be handed out during convocation or commencement ceremonies. Graduation requirements will be verified, and diplomas will be mailed to all candidates who have successfully completed degree requirements.
University Graduate & Undergraduate Commencement Ceremonies
The College of Design convocation is a separate event from the official Iowa State University commencement ceremony. The convocation includes only students from the College of Design and allows students and their guests a more individualized celebration of their achievement. Diploma covers are not presented at the college event. The covers are presented at the University commencement ceremony.
All ISU graduating students are encouraged to attend the university’s official commencement ceremonies. Academic attire is required at these ceremonies. Note that there are three undergraduate ceremonies. The College of Design will be recognized at the third ceremony.
- Graduate Commencement Ceremony, 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12, Hilton Coliseum
- Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony, 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14, Hilton Coliseum
