Hospitality Studio--Hotel Nervi, Via Flaminia, Rome
Students will work in interdisciplinary teams to design a 400-room convention/tourist hotel adjacent to the 1960s Olympic sites in Rome. In particular, the studio will focus on current conservation plans for the Stadio Flaminio, a masterwork by engineer/builder Pier Luigi Nervi that is being re-thought as a recreation and cultural center for the district, adding to institutions that include MAXXI and the Parco della Musica. The studio will emphasize a comprehensive approach, from urban planning and socio-cultural contexts to structural, circulation, and environmental response, to experiential qualities of interior and exterior spaces.
