Career Services

For Faculty and Staff

Design Career Services offers programs and services to help College of Design students develop life-long skills in career development; facilitates connections with employers, students, and alumni; and tracks and reports professional outcomes for all graduates.

To help meet our legal and ethical responsibilities and to maintain a fair and equitable recruiting process, CyHire is designated as the posting site for professional positions and internships for all students at Iowa State University. All requests to post or relay opportunities should be forwarded to Design Career Services for assistance in posting. Instructions for employer can also be found here. Use of CyHire also ensures employers recruiting ISU students are committed to following Iowa State University’s Discrimination and Harassment Policy.

Design Career Services partners with colleagues across campus and the Big 12 to offer the Big 12 virtual career fair. There are opportunities for design students at most ISU career fairs hosted by other colleges.

Legal and Ethical Issues in Recruiting

Requests for student referrals or names of excellent students may seem harmless, but there are potential legal and ethical pitfalls. For more information, please read A Faculty Guide to Ethical and Legal Standards in Student Hiring and Tips for Providing References, published by the National Association of Colleges and Employers.

Reporting Discrimination or Harassment

Faculty and staff are “Responsible Employees” and obligated to report concerns to ISU’s Office of Equal Opportunity. This includes conduct by employers engaged in recruiting and issues that occur during internships.

Class Presentations

Design Career Services staff are happy to present in classes and for student organizations affiliated with the college. Presentation topics include: Overview of Career Services Resources, Professional Communication and Application Materials, Job and Internship Searches, Understanding and Negotiating Job Offers, Preparing for Career Fairs, and Interview Preparation. Please email Tiffany Atilano to schedule, and please feel free to propose a topic that isn’t listed.
