Mark your calendar for a new fall career event! Design Conversations & Connections is Thursday, October 6, in the College of Design. Stop by to explore career-related resources, information, and opportunities in a casual environment with food, games, and prizes. Connect with professionals, alumni, and ISU staff to learn more about:

Join professionals and the Building Up Inclusive Leadership in Design (BUILD) Learning Community for brunch and conversations about studio environments, networking opportunities, and firms’ activities related to justice, diversity, equity, and inclusion. Please RSVP here.

1:00-5:00 p.m. Conversations & Connections

  • Casual career & resource fair (atrium, upper King Pavilion)
    Stop by tables to learn about opportunities and resources. Visit with professionals, ask questions, make connections, and sign up to win prizes. See list of participating professionals below, and learn more about the employers using
    CyHire.
  • LinkedIn photos (lower King Pavilion until 2:30 p.m.)
  • Interactive Q&A (hallway between atrium and King Pavilion)
    Post questions and get answers to career-related questions. Submit questions by Oct. 5 or add them that afternoon. 
  • Presentations (116 Design)
    • 1:00 p.m. The Olsson Studio Student Design Charrette
      Representatives from The Olsson Studio will share information about an opportunity to engage with professionals for a 3-day event in Kansas City, MO, working on a local project with city staff and stakeholders.
    • 1:30 p.m. Building a Career as an Artist
      Chris Vance, a College of Design alumnus (BFA 2000 Visual Studies), will share insights and his experience working as an artist in Iowa.
    • 2:30 p.m. Becoming a Rising Star Intern
      ISU Extension & Outreach will share more about this
      unique internship opportunity – it’s interdisciplinary and includes housing!
    • 3:00 p.m. Understanding Benefits and Retirement Plans
      The ISU Office of Student Financial Success will share information about important pieces of job offers that vary significantly from employer to employer.
    • 3:30 p.m. DLR Group; Representing Oneself and One’s Work to Potential Employers
      Representatives from DLR Group will share information about the firm as well as tips for how to best represent oneself and one’s work to potential employers.
  • Carlos’ Quesadillas (2:00-5:00 p.m., Lot 9 – participate and get tickets for tacos!)
  • Prizes and games (4:00-5:00 p.m., southwest side of atrium)
