Verena Paepcke-Hjeltness, an Iowa State University assistant professor of industrial design, is a candidate for the IDSA (Industrial Designers Society of America) At-Large Director – Awards position. This would be a two-term leadership position starting in 2019. The focus would be on the professional organization’s internal awards programs, such as Student Merit Awards and Graduate Student Merit Awards as well as Fellowship and Educator of the Year Awards. The voting period starts Nov. 12 and is open to all IDSA members in good standing.

In her current role as a jury member for the Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA), Paepcke-Hjeltness is mentioned in the Innovation Fall 2018 Yearbook of Design Excellence. Every year Innovation honors all award recipients and jury members in the fall edition.

Jury members are appointed for a two-year cycle. The jury process includes online reviews of approximately 180 entries per jury member and an on-site review process with 20 select jury members at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, over the course of five days in the spring of each year. Paepcke-Hjeltness has participated in both processes for the past two years.
