Verena Paepcke-Hjeltness, assistant professor of industrial design and education director for the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA), is planning and curating the IDSA Education Symposium on “Breaking Down Barriers: Fostering Collaboration for Systemic Change” and call for papers as part of the International Design Conference (IDC).

In this role, she implemented visual papers for the first time in collaboration with the Design Sketching SIG and initiated a symposium committee with Aziza Cyamani (MID 2018 Industrial Design / MDesSe 2019 Sustainable Environments), visiting professor in interior architecture and product design at Kansas State University; Carly Hagins, assistant professor of product design at Western Michigan University; and Bryan Howell, program coordinator and professor of industrial design, Brigham Young University. Students, faculty and practitioners from diverse disciplines are invited to submit papers through Monday, April 26.
