Johnny DiBlasi, assistant professor of art and visual culture, exhibited an iteration of his artwork “Beauty: Compositional Agents” in the group exhibition at the 21st Festival Internacional de la Imagen in Manizales, Colombia, that opened on Oct. 17. “Compositional Agents” is a machine-microbial artwork developed by DiBlasi and colleagues in the experimental research collective Phylum they cofounded. The project explores pattern-forming bacteria cultures whose growth drives an audiovisual performance in real time.
The Festival Internacional de la Imagen addresses cutting-edge issues that integrate various art and design disciplines, distributed knowledge, and social and environmental issues that invite critical reflection on media and communications in the contemporary world.
