Francis Owusu, professor and chair of the Department of Community and Regional Planning, received a Carnegie African Diaspora Fellowship from the Institute for International Education in collaboration with the United States International University-Africa. The fellowship will fund his travel to South Africa, where he will work with the University of Limpopo’s Risk and Vulnerability Science Centre to enhance the capacity of their graduate students and academic staff for climate-change mitigation, adaptation and sustainable development efforts through collaborative research, mentorship and community engagement. Initially scheduled for this summer, the trip has been postponed until the COVID-19 situation improves and regular international travel resumes.
