The Department of Architecture’s DoGE and Associate Professor Douglas Spencer, and Assistant Teaching Professor Liza Walling, are contributing to the international Green New Deal Superstudio with their Spring semester studio ARCH 602/DSN 546 Ecologies of Repair. This studio approaches the existential threat of climate crisis through practices of care, maintenance and repair. Focused on the historical, environmental and geological conditions of Iowa, it will respond to the troubled legacy of the occupation and settlement of the land, the toxic consequences of its agricultural and industrial transformation, and the prospects for its socially equitable and ecologically viable remediation.
