Christopher J. Seeger, Iowa State University professor of landscape architecture and landscape architecture extension specialist, and Bailey Hanson, GIS systems analyst and extension specialist, received the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach 2018 Excellence in Research-Based Programming Award at the ISU Extension and Outreach Annual Conference 2018 Monday, March 26, at the Scheman Building on the Iowa State University campus.

Seeger and Hanson were recognized for the Iowans Walking Assessment Logistics Kit (I-WALK), “a perfect example of how Extension and Outreach helps Iowans understand and operationalize research from a land-grant university,” the award citation said. “Utilizing smartphone technology, geographic information systems and crowdsourcing to solve community problems takes everyday technology that community members can access and puts it into use to make informed decisions.”
