Folio, a design firm led by Bosuk Hur (BArch 2005 / MArch 2006 Architecture), associate professor of practice in architecture, with fellow Iowa State University alumni Youngsu Lee (BArch 2006 Architecture) and Suk Lee (BArch 2018 Architecture), recently completed the Boulder Pavilion project in Kingsdale CC, Cheongju Si, South Korea. They were joined on the project team by ISU fifth-year architecture student Jihoon Kim and colleague Wonchul Park.

Located in the center of a golf resort, the project utilizes the boulder as a structural component as well as an aesthetic element and signifier of the place. A metal H-beam resting on a 13-foot-tall boulder exposes the space as an architectural object while supporting the concrete ceiling structure. A single pine tree in its original location rises through the outdoor deck and penetrates the roof to preserve the existing landscape.
