In a highly competitive application process, Alex Braidwood, associate professor of graphic design, has been selected as one of three artists-in-residence at Isle Royale National Park on Lake Superior this summer. From Aug. 2–17, Braidwood will backpack around the remote island and record the soundscape of various locations, which he will then catalog, tag with metadata and archive for potential use in future research. He will also share the recordings in a public program that will teach tactics for active listening and engage participants in a “listening walk” around the island’s Rock Harbor.
