Book release party marks start of ISU Design on Main Gallery’s fall programming Aug. 29

August 29, 2014

AMES, Iowa — The Iowa State University College of Design's Design on Main Gallery will host a release party for "Prairie Gold: An Anthology of the American Heartland" from 7 to 9 p.m. today, Aug. 29, at 203 Main St. in downtown Ames.

Four of the book's contributors—Meghan Brown, Michelle Donahue, Claire Kruesel and Rachel Lopez, all current graduate students or alumni of Iowa State's Master of Fine Arts program in creative writing and environment—will read from their work during the event. Editors Lance M. Sacknoff and Stefanie Trout, a communications assistant with ISU's Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture and a graduate student in English, and publisher Steve Semken of Ice Cube Press will answer questions about Midwestern literature and publishing.

Copies of "Prairie Gold" will be available for purchase, and light snacks and nonalcoholic beverages will be provided. Sponsored in part by a 2014 Local Wonders Grand from AgArts – Iowa, the event is free and open to the public.

"Prairie Gold" is a collection of short stories, essays and poems by 67 writers offering new and diverse perspectives on the Midwest. The anthology features introductions by Dean Bakopoulos, a former graduate student in the MFA program in creative writing and environment; Debra Marquart, professor of English, and Iowa Poet Laureate Mary Swander, Distinguished Professor of English.
