AMES, Iowa — Nine Iowa State University students and recent graduates are among 22 Emerging Iowa Artists selected to exhibit their work at the Des Moines Arts Festival, June 27-29 in Western Gateway Park.

Now in its 12th year, the Emerging Iowa Artists program provides an opportunity for young visual artists to showcase their talent at one of the nation's top arts festivals, which annually attracts more than 200,000 visitors.

Students selected from Iowa State this year include Paige Stanton of Windsor Heights, who just completed her freshman year in the College of Design, and integrated visual arts graduate student Sodam Lee, Seoul, South Korea, who won Best of Emerging Iowa Artists in the 2013 festival. Pictured is her "Cultural Richness 1" relief print.

Recent graduates include Dillon Baker, Des Moines, and Peter Kasper, Tiffin, who received bachelor of fine arts degrees in integrated studio arts in 2012; Emily Baxter and Sarah Lokenvitz, both of Ames, and Cody Sherman, Urbandale, all of whom received BFAs in integrated studio arts in 2013; and Mark Kirschenmann, Huxley, who received a BFA in integrated studio arts and English in May.

Two other ISU College of Design alumni—Carrie Hoffnagle, Minneapolis, who received a BFA in integrated studio arts and a bachelor of arts in journalism and mass communication in 2006, and Chris Vance, Bondurant, who received a BFA in visual studies in 2000—are among the 195 professional artists chosen to participate in the 2014 Des Moines Arts Festival.

Festival hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, June 27, and Saturday, June 28, and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 29. For more information on the event see http://desmoinesartsfestival.org.
